Patricia Jenkins Eder, Owner
“I’ve lived in Durham for 36 years. I grew up in rural Maryland among dairies, farms and Chesapeake Bay seafood. I moved to New York, Key West and Hawaii, where I learned to cook – New York deli-style comfort foods, Key West fish and Hawaiian tropical dishes.
“After settling in Durham with a growing family, I focused on natural foods and what I could create from my garden and my co-op. During my childrens’ school years my interest in natural foods shifted from home to marketplace. For over twenty years I crisscrossed my town, state and country promoting natural foods and beverages.
“Throughout it all, I planned, cooked, and hosted breakfasts, luncheons, dinners and parties for the many different celebrations of my family, friends and colleagues. Numerous friends and guests began asking me to plan their special occasions and soon I was designing events and contributing recipes, dishes and equipment.
“My “aha” moment occurred when I was planning a wedding reception for 200 people for a friend’s son. That’s when I realized creating beautiful, delicious, memorable events was my joy!
“CORE Catering is the synthesis of my life of celebrations and my love of food. Both depend on relationships with local farmers, growers and suppliers that conjure my creativity and turn my executive experience and skills into your life’s celebrations.”
“I grew up in Durham and had the great fortune to be part of a large family where parties and entertaining were the norm, not the exception. Birthdays, holidays and special occasions gave reason for great food and great memories. I spent time with my family working in food booths at local festivals and sold my artwork there as well. It’s no surprise I worked in the food service industry through my college years as I followed a path in fine arts.
“My husband’s studies for graduate school took us to Utah and Alabama but I knew I wanted to return home to NC to raise our family. Here in the Triangle area, I have continued working in all facets of food service – cooking, catering and event planning – ensuring the flawless execution of small intimate affairs to events in excess of 500 guests. My fine arts background is an asset to customers, bringing attention to the smallest of details.
“It is a natural progression that family, festivities, fine arts and food culminated with my mom and me launching CORE Catering. It’s part of who we are.”
